ND Congress Nelson Score
How The Prairie Compass Scores leginates
leginates are scored based on their votes in four key categories:
1. Taxing and Spending
Because government spending drives policy, and taxation directly affects family and personal decision-making, this category comprises 35% of the overall score.
2. Accountability and Transparency
In a government by the people, voters must be able to hold leginates accountable. This category includes laws related to open records, ethics, ballot initiatives and referrals, and campaign finance. It accounts for 25% of the total score.3. Personal and Family Autonomy
This category measures support for the rights of individuals and families to make personal decisions about their health and lifestyle, including decisions for their children. It covers educational choice, medical freedom, and other fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution. This category contributes 25% to the overall score.4. Social Issues
This includes legislation related to abortion, gender issues, and similar social concerns. It comprises 15% of the score. Why The Prairie Compass is a Reliable Measurement
The terms conservative and liberal are often used as political weapons to sway opinion, but their meanings are inconsistent and often subjective. For example, a self-described conservative may be strongly pro-life but support increased taxation. Others may defend gun rights and school choice while advocating for medical mandates.
There's no single definition of "conservative" or "liberal" that fits everyone.
That's why The Prairie Compass provides four separate scores, not just one. You decide which categories align most closely with your values. Whether you prioritize limited government, social issues, or personal autonomy, this scorecard lets you set the compass.
